What's New at the HCHS - June 23, 2010
The officers and board members of the Holt County Humane Society have recently added a few new
changes to our policies. It was decided that until the HCHS can find a permanent building in which to
house our rescued dogs, they will no longer be taken in unless a foster home is available.

The foster care program is undoubtedly our most important program! Volunteer Foster Homes
provide the animals with shelter and a caring environment until they can be placed into a permanent
home.

The Holt County Humane Society Foster Program provides a wonderful opportunity to bond with
very special animals and help socialize and prepare them for adoption. HCHS provides food and
supplies as needed, as well as veterinary care. Vaccinations will be updated and animals will be spayed
or neutered. We also provide Heartworm testing in dogs. The Foster Caregiver is responsible for the
daily care of an animal, including feeding, socializing, basic training, and providing love & security. As
a Foster Caregiver you will be asked to provide feedback on the animals behavior, personality, etc.
This information will help us place the animal in the best possible home.

Fostering does require a committment to the love and care of your foster pet. Giving up an animal you
have fostered can be emotionally difficult, but what better way to ensure that animals happy future than
to know that you helped give that animal a second chance at life.

After much discussion, it was also decided that another direction of the HCHS will concentrate on
community outreach that will benefit our community such as financial help with spays and neuters and
offering afforable vaccination clinics.
