Adoptions All pets adopted through the Holt County Humane Society have been given a physical exam, have been spayed or neutered and updated on Rabies and distemper vaccinations and have been dewormed and have had Frontline Plus applied. Adoption fees Dogs $85 Concerned about the cost of adoption? Remember that there is no such thing as a "free pet". Free kittens often come with ear mites and respiratory diseases. Free puppies commonly have intestinal parasites, fleas, etc. Medical bills for these issues can far surpass our adoption fee, not to mention the costs involved in vaccinations as well as spaying or neutering a pet. |
Adoption Policies The responsible party must be at least 18 years of age or have parental consent. Adoption applications can be submitted to any board member and will be approved/denied by the board in a timely manner. Adoptive homes agree to provide adequate food, shelter and confinement (not allowed to roam free). HCHS will not be responsible for costs of medical care for the adoptive pet once the pet is in its new home. It is recommended to allow the new pet to meet any current pets in the household prior to finalizing the adoption The adoption fee covers medical and housing expenses prior to adoption. The adoption fee is non-refundable, however HCHS will waive the intake fee if the pet is returned within 60 days of adoption. If you are interested in adopting a pet from us or have questions, please keep in mind, that since we are an all-volunteer organization, we all have families, regular jobs, pets of our own, and very full lives, so please be patient and allow us sufficient time to get back to you regarding an appointment. |
Adopting a Pet Dog adoptions are the cornerstone of our mission and purpose. Since we began in April of 2006, we have placed over 250 pets into loving homes and we still have much work to do. There are thousands of animals in shelters across our country that are still waiting for homes. We hope you will take some time to learn more about our adoption process and meet the pets we currently have available for adoption. The HCHS strives to make appropriate, permanent matches between adoptors and our shelter dogs. Adoption fee includes spay/neuter and shots. We get dogs frequently so please chcck back often. We will work with you fo find the right dog. This may take a little time or we may have the perfect dog for you right now. Sometimes we get multiple applications for the same dog. Remember, it takes time for a dog to blossom who has been traumatized by removal from the only security they knew in their previous homes. Please give them time to adjust and recover. Some dogs who are more social by nature adjust more quickly since they are so happy to be around anyone. these dogs are worth waiting for! Thanks for your patience and we look forward to working with you to find your new family member. |
