Volunteer for the HCHS

Since its inception, the Holt County Humane Society has been organized and run completely by volunteers. Our
services are managed by volunteers who offer their tireless efforts to help make a difference in around our community.
Whether you are prepared to offer a great deal of your time or can only spare a few hours a month, we can certainly
use your help. Because of safety and liability concerns, volunteers must be at least 14 years of age and very reliable
and responsible.

One of the most important requirements of our volunteers is that you must be sincerely interested in animal welfare.
Some of our volunteer jobs are on an as-needed basis. We ask that you arrive promptly for your scheduled work time,
provide the animals in the shelter with the best care possible and finally, treat fellow volunteers with respect and
courtesy.

Kennel Cleaning - Daily 5:30 PM The shelter must be kept clean to ensure the health and comfort of our animals. This
includes sweeping, disinfecting, and wiping down all kennels. Fill food bowls, wash out and fill water dishes, and
replacing dog blankets when needed. Pooper Scoopers are always needed.

Volunteers may also want to walk dogs however, you must be able to handle large, strong, and stressed dogs. Our
shelter dogs are walked on a specific schedule. That is why it is imperative that you be here at your committed time.
So if you can commit to one day a week, or one hour per week, please fill out and sign the Volunteer Agreement. If
you are under the age of 16, you will need parental consent. After you have completed the volunteer form, mail it to
the shelter at 521 S. Madison St. O'Neill, NE 68763.

There are some things that kids can do to help-

* At your next birthday party, ask each person to bring
something for the shelter animals
* Recycle old blankets for the animals.
* Organize a drive at school or in the community for the
items on our "Wish List"
* Gather old newspapers from your family and neighborhood
(we use lots of these at the shelter).
